Our Story
How We Started
Taste of Chengdu began with a simple mission: to bring the true flavors of Sichuan to Orlando — not the Americanized versions, but the dishes locals in Chengdu know and love. Founded by Chef Xiong “Tiger” Tang, the restaurant started as a passion project rooted in heritage, discipline, and a desire to share the culinary soul of his hometown.
Over the years, Taste of Chengdu has grown into a beloved Orlando institution, celebrated for its authenticity, its bold yet balanced flavors, and its commitment to elevating regional Chinese cuisine. The restaurant has expanded, evolved, and earned MICHELIN Bib Gourmand since 2023, but its heart remains the same: a dedication to honest, skillful Sichuan cooking and a dining experience that feels both welcoming and transportive.
Chef Xiong “Tiger” Tang is the culinary force behind Taste of Chengdu. Trained at the Sichuan Culinary School in China, he brings decades of experience and a deep understanding of regional technique to Orlando’s dining scene.
Known for his disciplined, thoughtful approach to Sichuan cooking, Chef Tiger focuses on balance over firepower, crafting dishes that are layered, aromatic, and true to their origins. His leadership has guided Taste of Chengdu to Michelin recognition and established it as one of Orlando’s most respected Chinese restaurants.
Chef Tiger is also the owner of the restaurant and has overseen major milestones, including the reopening of the West Colonial location and the evolution of the menu.
